According to the Publication in November 2010 by the Cambodian Business Review website, The Royal Tower will become an importnat addition to Phnom Penh`s emerging skyline.The Building is planned to offer first class international standard office space for investors in Cambodia.

The 36 storeys project is a joint venture between a majority local owned companyThe Royal Group and Amarapura Properties.

According to The Royal Group website, this temporary architectural tower with `A` shape in plan will be completed in mid-2013.

Last day at weekend, One of my Japanese friends invited me to small pub in Fukui.There were only a few
customers sitting at the counter when
we arrived. Amongst them, there was a man with thick side-beards, greeted and said Hajimemashite or mean [ How do you do?] to me.
His age is around 20.

After I sat and drank a glass of beer, that man walked to the free space of the pub, turned on the stereo, prepared the microphone, and pulled out a quitar from a corner of the room, started to play and sing the song fascinatingly.

All the music and lyrics he sang, he said, he wrote by himself.
Even though the world does not know him yet, he deserves a stage better than this.

Mountain Climbing became one of my hobby and sport, since i never do much exercise for years, after i joined with my Japanese friends,climbing to the top of 3 mountains in Fukui last weekend.The mountains are about 1050 meters in height.I was tired, but after i climbed to the top of the mountain, I really had a good relax, refresh, and viewed nice scenery from there.We had nice food,the food that my japanese friend cooked for me,drank coffee, ate some snacks and talked friendly.
Each of us is so tired after the mountain climbing,but we relaxed comfortably at the Onsen, Sauna. I was surprise to enter the public Onsen in Japan....(^0^)

Snow still fall in Fukui

It is still cold, and snow still fall in Fukui.
The temperature is around (0~4`C).
The snow piled up on the way, and it is not safe enough if drivers do not slow down the speed.
For me, I always go to school by bike, but due to the safety and difficulty to ride
on the snow, I have to walk about 25minutes from home.
The Photos above were taken around my school
on my way to the class yesterday morning.
Although it is cold ,I still love taking it.

PROPERTY services firm CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) Cambodia has predicted that office supply in Phnom Penh could reach as high as 200,000 square metres by 2013, almost double the current available space, if most of the office stock slated for development over that period is completed. In its first report on the Phnom Penh real estate market made publicly available, the local office of the major US property consultancy says Phnom Penh’s office stock surpassed 100,000 square metres for the first time this year, with around 20,000 square metres of new office space hitting the market.Most of that is in the 29-storey Canadia Tower, the Kingdom’s first skyscraper, which opened its doors to its anchor tenant, building owner Canadia Bank, last month.CBRE Country Manager Daniel Parkes said the firm’s estimate accounted only for the portion of the tower to be set aside for office rentals, meaning that the six floors taken by Canadia Bank and others set aside for retail, hospitality and residential offerings were excluded. How much of the tower will be set aside for office space has not been definitively determined, and negotiations with prospective tenants were ongoing, sources within the bank say.Parkes said the newly opened headquarters of Cambodia Public Bank, or CampuBank, were also excluded, as it was built exclusively for the bank.CBRE anticipated that up to 35,000 square metres will go on the market next year, 45,000 square metres in 2011 and a little under 20,000 square metres in 2012, based on projects in the pipeline.“There are a number of office projects tabled for Phnom Penh, but if we assume a more realistic outlook that only those projects now started and under way come forward then the supply will be 76,021 square metres over the next 5 years,” Parkes said.Among those are towers being built by Vattanac Bank and The Royal Group, both neighbouring Canadia Tower, Amco’s Phnom Penh Tower and a limited amount of office space in Gold Tower 42 and Posco E&C’s Star River residential development.The report did not predict the extent of demand for new and existing facilities but said the ability of Canadia Tower to attract tenants would serve as a benchmark. “The appetite for new office space depends greatly on the quality and pricing as to whether occupiers decide to relocate from existing office space, many of which are renovated villas or built to suit premises,” it says. “Developers, occupiers and investors are looking to the project as a bellwether for office development in Phnom Penh, experts will view its success as a barometer for future trends.”Parkes said the company was optimistic that demand for office space would grow in Phnom Penh over the next five years and beyond. “Demand will continue to grow in the coming years from existing occupiers within the Phnom Penh market looking to upgrade their premises and business image and also from new entrants from abroad,” he said.

Cambodian gov't passes anti-corruption draft law

PHNOM PENH, Dec 11, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The Cambodian government on Friday approved the long-awaited anti-corruption draft law, paving the way for the country to further strengthen the rule of law.

The law will become a main legal tool for implementing the work of anti-corruption, punishment, and other procedures in cracking down on other corruption cases in the country, a statement from the cabinet meeting said.

The anti-corruption draft law is a part of the government reform in an effort to speed up the good governance, strengthen the rule of law, promote sustained economic development which will contribute to reducing poverty for the local people, it said. Prime Minister Hun Sen presided over Friday's cabinet meeting.

I went to Cambodia last week for nearly a week-day tour.
I was surprise to see Phnom Penh is making her beauty better and better.
Many project constructions are still going on eventhough our world has been meeting economic downturn.

The tour was very nice,anyway, because of the time, I couldnt meet many friends of mine.
I am writing here, also, to say sorry to my friends whom I couldnt contact and meet.

What do Apsaras mean?
Apsaras, divine nymphs or celestial dancing girls, are characters from Indian mythology. Their origin is explained in the story of the churning of the Ocean of Milk, or samudra manthan, found in the great epic Mahabharata. Other stories in the Mahabharata detail the exploits of individual apsaras, who were often used by the gods as agents to persuade or seduce mythological demons, heroes and ascetics. The widespread use of apsaras as a motif for decorating the walls and pillars of temples and other religious buildings, however, was a Khmer innovation. In modern descriptions of Angkorian temples, the term "apsara" is sometimes used to refer not only to dancers but also to other minor female deities, though minor female deities who are depicted standing about rather than dancing are more commonly called "devatas."(wikipedia)

Japan is known as an earthquake-prone country. Until now, many parts of the country have experienced devastating earthquakes and tidal waves(tsunami). The worst earthquake in Japanese history is Great Kanto Earthquake, hit Kanto plain around Tokyo in 1923.

In January 1995, a strong earthquake, known as The Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake,hit the city of Kobe and surroundings.In result, many tall modern buildings in the area were brought down. By 1920s, Phnom Penh, the Capital of Cambodia, was once known as
` The Pearl of Asia`.
The City exhibits a great balance between persuing modernization, while retaining all the aspects that made it a Paris of the East.
The city's French colonial buildings are beautiful, so its streetscapes provide a pleasant treat to the eyes.[Reference]

In 1958, five years after gaining freedom from France, the Monument of Independence was built.Straddling a main intersection of Norodom and Sihanouk Boulvards, the multi-tiered tower, adorned with Hindu Nagas, resembles the Lotus flower domes of Angkor.
The Monument was made out of red stone, designed by the innovative Khmer architect Vann Molyvann.
In less than two decades, an estimated 1300 new buildings shot up around the city, a pace of urban renewal that would be astonishing anywhere, let alone such a small, poor nation.
More significantly, the vast majority was constructed in a mostly-cohesive style that is increasingly being hailed as New Khmer Architecture, by admirers like urban planner and author Helen Grant Ross.
“The 1950s was about a new age, in health, education and planning,” she notes. “The buildings reflect the sense of optimism, vigor and confidence. This was a time when all of Asia was looking at Cambodia, and Phnom Penh became a more developed city in the 1960s than Bangkok. It was an exhilarating period.[Reference]

In April 1967, Lee Kwan Yew was invited to Phnom Penh by Cambodia's Prince Norodom Sihanouk Norodom.Cruising along the capital's elegant boulevards in his Mercedes convertible, the Singaporean premier turned to his host and mused,'I hope, one day, my city will look like this'. [Reference]

Eight years after Lee's visit, Phnom Penh lay charred and abandoned. Khmer Rough soldiers had dynamited the National Bank and cathedral. The Art Deco Bibliotheque became a makeshift kitchen for Chinese advisers to Pol Pot staying at a decrepit Hotel Le Royal next door.
The country was plunged into the civil war. After suffered from political and economic instability for many years due to decades of conflict, Today Cambodia is finally at peace and Phnom Penh is undergoing a remarkable transformation. Roads are being re-paved, colonial villas repainted and fountains turned back. And, while belated, the rich architectural legacy that survived the wars is beginning to attract the attention it deserves, as well as considerable concern.”[Reference]

Annual economic growth in 2006, as late as statistics have been available, was at 10.8% compared to the UK’s 3.25% in the same year (which has now fallen to 2.5% in the first quarter of 2008) and the recent building spurt further suggests a growing economy in the South East Asian country.
Foreign Investment is to account for the building with South Korea’s GS E &C company spending $300 million on Gold Tower 42 and over three times as much, $1 billion, on the IFC project. GS E&C’s business remit covers investments, civil, architectural, plant, environmental and power services. President and CEO of the company, Kevin K.R. Kim said: “GS E&C will strive to successively accomplish the project and build Cambodia’s tomorrow, building a foundation of the partnership between Cambodia and Korea.”[Reference]

BATTAMBANG, Cambodia's second largest city, is home to some of the finest French colonial-era buildings in the country.This rich architectural heritage is a legacy of the northwestern city's importance as a regional administrative centre and a vital link between Phnom Penh and Thailand during the period of French rule from 1863 to 1953. While views on the benefits or otherwise of French rule inevitably remain mixed, few disagree that the city's nearly one million inhabitants have done well out of France's attention to architecture and urban design. The city's wide boulevards, grand gardens and sweeping alleys of trees make the city an attractive place to live and visit.Battambang district Governor Uy Ry is well-aware of the importance of the city's colonial French architecture to tourism in the city, particularly the simple French shophouses that flank the edges of the Sangke River, which flows through the centre of town."There are 800 good examples of French colonial architecture in Battambang province, most of which are shophouses or flats," he said. "It is very important that we preserve their original style both for tourists and students who want to conduct research on this style of architecture."The Battambang District Administration is leading the preservation effort, dividing the city's examples of French colonial architecture into two categories.Almost 800 properties have been listed in the "Important" category and are considered to be of utmost priority for conservation. Another 40 have been listed in the "Secondarily Important" category.As part of the conservation effort, the administration has initiated a number of regulations relating to the preservation of French colonial architecture in the city, including a ban on owners making changes to the exterior of protected buildings. Interior renovations are permitted. The Battambang District Administration has also recently begun receiving aid from Germany and the EU to help preserve and restore the houses.Uy Ry says conservation is of utmost priority. "Recently the owners of these French colonial houses have started thinking about their value and realising that, if they are willing to protect them and keep them in good condition, they can potentially make a profit," he said. Khoun Vanthat, whose family has long lived in a French colonial house in the city, is among those waking up to the economic potential of her home. "When I was a child, I didn't want to live in this house because it was too old," she said.

"But as I grew up I came to realise the value of it. Many tourists like to see the house, so I am now happy to live here. But it is badly damaged, and I am worried that in five or 10 years I may lose it as I don't have the money to repair it in the same style."

Long road ahead

Walter Koditek, who is working as an urban planning adviser to the city for the German Development Service [DED], said the majority of colonial-era houses in the city are in poor condition, mainly due to a lack of regular maintenance."A lot of heritage buildings from the French-era are in rather poor condition, but this does not mean they cannot be renovated, as the buildings' substance and structures are generally very solid."However, renovation must be done carefully. Today, economic progress rather than neglect is the greatest threat facing the buildings, as private owners undertake renovations and updates themselves, often making a mess of the original structure."The major changes have appeared with economic development and investment done by the owners - mostly small-scale businesses - during the last ten years," Koditek said. "Furthermore, some public buildings in prime locations have been sold or swapped, and the administrative heritage buildings are under serious threat of being demolished for new developments. Some are gone already."There were two main obstacles to preservation, he said. "One of the biggest problems is a lack of understanding and awareness about the cultural and economic heritage value of these buildings among the public and officials in Cambodia. Everyone is focused on the Angkor temples."The second challenge was the lack of a specific law for urban heritage buildings and ensembles, he said. "The existing regulations are too general, and they are not properly implemented."Koditek said a draft regulation for heritage conservation was prepared years ago by the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction but was never passed into law.

Local action

The future of the city's architectural history is now in the hands of the Battambang District Administration, which has delegated responsibility to its Master Plan Team, with support from the central government, the European Union and Koditek's DED.The team, which was originally charged with working on spatial planning issues in Battambang, is made up of 10 to 12 officials from district offices and some provincial departments. It began paying attention to conserving the city's rich urban architectural heritage just last year. The group has already begun its work under Koditek's supervision, surveying the buildings in the old city centre with a view to designating the area as a conservation zone for the preservation of colonial buildings. A survey has also been carried out on the old provincial hall, and a Battambang Heritage Calendar will be released in 2009 to raise public awareness. A heritage seminar is also scheduled for next year.Bol Chantrea, a receptionist at Moon guesthouse, said the success of the preservation effort would be critical for the tourist industry."I am worried about the French colonial houses because some are damaged and soon more will be damaged," he said. "If the authorities do nothing, we will have a problem."

Through determination and savvy fundraising, Cambodians and foreigners ressurrect an ancient water catchment and bring irrigation to thousands

AFTER five years of planning, fundraising and construction, the rebuilding of a reservoir once believed to serve the ancient Angkorian temple Chao Srei Vibol has entered its final stages, and will provide irrigation for more than 9,000 residents in three communes in Siem Reap."We're working with the government right now to finish the final phase of construction," said Tobias Rose-Stockwell, project director of the NGO Human Translation, which spearheaded the project."We need a good, solid, erosion-proof road on top, and we need to get more vegetation on the embankment itself and to finish portions of the canal system. But that's pretty easy compared to what we've done so far," he said. Rose-Stockwell added that archaeologists believe this reservoir to be one of the largest remaining pieces of the ancient Angkorian irrigation system because the canal system fed by the reservoir shoots straight into a moat around the Chao Srei Vibol temple. The reservoir has been destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, and was most recently in disrepair due to years flooding and neglect during Cambodia's civil war."The last time the reservoir was rebuilt was by force under the Khmer Rouge, but this time the community wanted to take ownership and rebuild it themselves," Rose-Stockwell said. The odyssey of reconstruction began when Rose-Stockwell, travelling through Cambodia five years ago, was introduced to a monk who asked him to visit his village. The monk explained that the village had a huge problem because its reservoir was broken. "When I first saw the reservoir, it was just a mound of earth covered with trees," Rose-Stockwell said. "I realised this was way bigger than anything I could do myself, but I thought, I'll at least try."
Monumental task
Rose-Stockwell began by raising money through drawing and photographing the reservoir. He soon realised, however, that "a ridiculous amount of money" was needed to fund his project. Three years ago, Rose-Stockwell coordinated with the New York chapter of Engineers Without Borders, a voluntary organisation of professional and student engineers. "The first thing they said to me was that this project is huge," Rose-Stockwell said. Engineers Without Borders began to work on the assessment, design and construction, while Human Translation performed the fundraising. According to D Bryse Gaboury, a project engineer, EWB first removed the overgrowth from the embankment, which would hold the water, then planted grass on the embankment to prevent erosion. It then built a watergate to stop the flow of water and create a mini-lake. "On the first assessment, we couldn't feel if the embankment was going up or down," he said. "Just looking all around you, it was just endless rice fields." William Cao, a structural engineer, explained that EWB built a special remote-controlled camera attached to a kite to take aerial photographs of the site. "Prior to this, there were no aerial photos of the site, not even satellite images on the web," he said. "It was like losing a key in a patch of grass; we had to find the embankment." Another challenge was demining the site. Luckily CMAC made this effort a high priority, according to Cao. The actual building, overseen by EWB and conducted by Cambodian contractors, began one-and-a-half years ago after a successful fundraiser in Napa Valley, California, at which donors contributed $150,000. "Honestly, we never had the money for this project until this fundraiser in August of 2007. The board of Human Translation put together an incredible opera in a winecave with an auction afterwards," said Rose-Stockwell. "It was amazing to see people to come together for Cambodia, a community they had no relationship to."
Community involvement
The communities served by the reservoir, from the Balangk, Run Ta Eak, and Knar Pu communes, also contributed funding and labour. "Hundreds of villagers and monks come out to help grass the embankment for erosion control," Rose-Stockwell said. "It's been a constant push-pull trying to get as much out of the local government, the district government, and the community overall. And they've really proven themselves in that regard."

Bernard Wouters, senior design manager of architecture at Archetype Cambodia, says proportions, rhythms and spatial arrangements are the key to Khmer architecture

The global financial crisis has given developers and planners a brief respite from the breakneck pace of Cambodia's property boom of recent years. Prime Location caught up with Bernard Wouters, senior design manager of architecture at Archetype Cambodia, to talk about where architecture in Cambodia is heading and how traditional design and planning practices can shape that future.
Is there such a thing as modern Khmer architecture?
I don't think modern Khmer architecture is the right phrase. You need to differentiate between Khmer architecture and modern architecture. It is better to ask is there such a thing as Cambodian architecture and where is it heading today.
Where is it heading?
What I see in Cambodia architecture today is that it's a search for identity. It's similar to what you can see in any post-war era, like we saw in Europe where there was a very strong rejection of the strong functionalist modernist movement that developed before the war through very famous architects like Le Corbusier, [Ludwig] Mies van der Rohe and Bauhaus. That was completely broken up by the war, and when the war had passed people were looking for some kind of security. They wanted to find an anti-movement to functionalist modern architecture. This we can see also today in Cambodia. What was done before the war, before the Khmer Rouge, is in some sense rejected by most people today. They don't want to go back to what happened before because, if we look at that modern architecture movement in the 1950s and 1960s, it had a strong functionalist structuralist feeling. Traditionally, structuralism was pure, it was clean, it was shaven of any unnecessary elements, and it was closely associated with the greater good, the community. Cambodian modernism of the time also had those associations with greater good and collectivism - they were good words at that time but today they are not. The current trend is very much that we want to distance ourselves from that. We want to go back to where we feel secure like the way our ancestors lived, their culture and way of life. What we see today in new architecture in Cambodia is that quest for security, for something which is going to last forever and is not being determined by a political or scientific philosophical approach.
What are some of the key architectural elements?
The key elements for me in Khmer architecture are the proportions, the rhythms. It's about how the shadows fall on the facade; its about the spatial arrangement between nature and the building. It's about a return to the vernacular architecture that existed before - a traditional little house somewhere in the countryside with lush vegetation and the security of the village and family. The elements that you can see are taken quite literally from village architecture with the way that they solved very practical problems, such as through steeply sloping roofs, a strong link between inside and outside and natural ventilation. But the only elements of this type seen strongly in architecture today are the roofs and the ornamentation. And unfortunately most of the features are facade features - they are not coming into function but mostly into appearance. They are decorative items. It's a bit sad because Khmer architecture has much stronger qualities when it comes to use of space and how they live with space. This was something also mentioned strongly by architects like Vann Molyvann, who wanted to incorporate Khmer living into the building rather than just what it looked like. Today we are a bit the other way around, worrying more what it looks like rather than how it functions inside and how it is adapted to the Khmer lifestyle.
Is that in part because the Khmer lifestyle is changing?
It's not so much that the elements are not appropriate but that the density of living is increasing nowadays and that most buildings are air conditioned, which from a natural living point of view doesn't work at all. It's a completely different conception of how you organise your space and how you organise your architecture. As soon as you work from a building that is an air-conditioned box, so to speak, then there is a strong differentiation between inside and outside. That's what we see in building today, so the only thing that is left is basically how it looks.
If you are building a six-storey apartment building, can you incorporate Khmer architectural elements such as the strongly sloping roof?
Traditional architecture is not an aesthetic architecture, or at least not purely aesthetic. It is as much based on practicality. When you take the building out of its context so to speak and give it a new practical purpose, it becomes very much a challenge incorporating that Khmer element.If you talk about roofs as a strong feature, for example, the roof will never be a strong feature if you have a six-storey building. In the original Khmer-style architecture most buildings were just single-storey buildings, or a single storey on stilts, therefore the proportions, the whole relationship between roof space compared to living space compared to space under the house is gone. I find it very difficult to proportion the whole thing in the correct way.
You talked about inside-outside flow. How can Cambodia's natural ecology be incorporated into architecture?
Today, we talk a lot about ecological architecture. Many foreign investors say they want something ecological, so why not combine those kind of things? That in itself could be the new Cambodia architecture. The lifestyle, how people live on their verandahs, and live in their natural ventilated spaces without having air conditioning, that is maybe the core of where architecture can develop.We also have these extraordinarily large spaces that exist in Cambodia architecture because we are working with natural ventilation. As soon as you say, ‘OK I want to build an office', or ‘I want to build a very dense, budget-minded, air-conditioned space', then all of that goes out through the door.
Is there an argument that Cambodia doesn't need these big offices, that we should be looking at smaller standalone structures instead?
Yes, but there is an economic drive that is related to the land prices that requires a very high development ratio on the land that you have. Today in Cambodia they are creating land as if there is a lack of land. They are filling in lakes, they are extending beaches as if there is a need to make new land. But a lack of land is not the reason. The reason is that some developers are looking for cheaper land, so they decide to make their own, or they are looking at it for a speculative purpose because making land is the same as printing money.
There is a lot of talk about how Phnom Penh is developing. Can traditional Khmer planning and architecture aid that discussion?
What is lacking in Phnom Penh is a community feeling. In the traditional architecture of the village, and of how Phnom Penh grew, the community was always a very central point. You would start at a community point like a pagoda and then everything circles out. That is completely gone. Today it is all individualism; everybody for their own plot of land to develop it to the maximum with no regard for neighbours. That is what needs to be done, to look at the community as a whole, the neighbourhood as a whole or the city as a whole.

Returning from Ta Prohm Temple, I continued my way to Phnom Bakheng ( Bekheng mountain).This is my second time to climb on Phnom Bakheng.
Phnom Bakheng locates on the left side on the way from Angkor Wat Temple to Angkor Tom Temple(Bayon Temple).
On the top of Phnom Bakheng , there is a temple, called Bakheng Temple.
To climd on the mountain, some tourists get on the elephant(s).But for me, i spent about 15 minutes or over to walk from the bottom to the temple on the top.
Tourists like to climb the mountain, to view the sunrise or sunset and beautiful landscape from the mountain. We can enjoy the view of Angkor Wat towers as well.
Phnom Bakheng was one of the first temples built at the Angkor Wat complex, when King Yasovarman moved the Khmer capital from Roluos around the year 890.

Siem Reap Tour: Ta Prohm Temple

Ta Prohm Temple, the old ruin in the jungle,is one of the first temples built by the great builder king Jayavarman VII. The construction date is set around 1186.The temple is dedicated to the king's mother, while the later Preah Khan was dedicated to his father.
In its day, Ta Prohm was an extremely wealthy temple. It 'owned' more than 3,000 villages and took nearly 80,000 people to maintain the temple, including 18 high priests, 2,740 official, 2,000 assistants and 615 dancers. The temple's possessions included around 500 kilograms of gold dishes, dozens of diamonds, and thousands of pearls and precious stones.
Ta Prohm is a place you should definitely plan on seeing,to give you some idea of what the other temples looked like before they were restored.

Early of this month, I visited my relatives in Battambang.

I was so much attracted with charming of Battambang city.
There are beautiful gardens along Sangker River, and in the evening people like to come and dance as an exercise. The Speakers are played and people dance, some people sit and watch the dancers, some people play sports (badminton etc.), some sellers are selling Pongtea Koun, Pro Het, Fruit shake, etc. some pairs sit on the green grass, bench talking friendly to each other along the Sangker river. The city looks very lively.

Bassac River, is one of the 4 big rivers in Cambodia, which start its point from Chaktomuk River in Phnom Penh.It receive the water from Mekong river in rainy season and flow through Chak Angre(district in Phnom Penh) and 3 districts of Kandal province (Takhmao, Saang, Koh Thom ) and pass through Vietnam down to chinese sea.

For everyday life,people(students) who live at the east side of the river, have to get on ferry (Touk Dor) to go to the big market, High school/junior high school,hospital which located on the west side. The price to get on the ferry is about 500 riel for one person or 1000 riel for one person with one motorbike. But students and civil servants have right not to pay the fee.
The people who live in Saang district at the east side of Bassac river can get more fast access to Phnom Penh on national road No. 21 by getting on the ferry at Phsa Prek Touch(Phsa Saang).
「Saang,means 「Saat=Beautiful」、is my home town where many agricultural product are produced and brought to fullfil the needs in Phnom Penh.

This summer vacation, I have spent about three weeks in my hometown, Cambodia.
From Kansai International Airport(KIX) to Phnom Penh International Airport(PNH), I used Shianghai Airline by transfering at Shianghai Pudong International Airport(PVG).
The ticket price was 89,650yen(include taxs etc. for 21 days FIX ),about 13,000yen more expensive by comparing to my last year flight. Comparing to other air line tickets, I think it was cheaper, but it was abit complicated during my transfer. I have to take my luggages and have it checked in again at PVG. ( the same as return)
I have to wait for about 5 hours during my transfer. This time, after landing at PVG from KIX, the Chinese immigration officer have me waited for over an hour, and investigated my passport. I didnt know what`s wrong with mine. But after the investigation, one Chinese immigration police kindly brought me to the departure lougne and talked friendly to me.During the visit, I used some methods of transportation. Tuk Tuk, Bike, Mortor, Mortor Dub(known as Popular Public Tranportation Ministry in Cambodia), Car(friend`s),Boat, Taxi,and Bus.

Cambodia's garbage to be turned into compost

Cintri, the firm charged with the mammoth task of collecting garbage in the Cambodian capital has unveiled plans to recycle Phnom Penh's mountains of trash into organic fertilizer.
But the firm says city dwellers themselves will need to pitch in by sorting out the garbage into specific categories for the plan to be a success.
With fertilizer prices peaking at three times the cost in 2007, Cintri hopes to use the garbage to produce compost for the farmers.
The firm's deputy director, Seng Chamroeun, says Cintri will soon begin combing the refuse piles at Stung Meanchey landfill site for appropriate
organic waste.
Mr Seng says turning organic waste into compost is not complicated, the people just need to know the type of garbage which can be used to produce compost.

Day on Mikuni Festival Day

Yesterday, my counsellor invited me to visit Mikuni Matsuri(Mikuni Festival) near his house in Sakai city, Fukui Prefecture. It took about 30mn by train from my place in Fukui city to get there.
I was warmly welcomed by his family and his friends with the delicious dinner and a guide for the festival.They are very kind.
Mikuni festival is one of the 3-main festival in Hokuriku area [area next to the Japan Sea,consist of Fukui Prefecture, Toyama Prefecture and Ishigawa Prefecture], which is celebrated to tell their new generation about the prosperity period of goods-carrying merchant ship from the past.
The festival celebrated in 3 days which the 2nd day is the main.They took the dollies that i think they represents their heroes around the town to the shrine.

Modern Architecture in Cambodia.

On my visit to Cambodia last year, i was attracted by the modern architecture in Siem Reap. The building is Kuntha Bopha Center, built with the local material [ Bamboo joined with the concrete] wall,and the uper central building was covered by Red brick . The Center is open for public which consist of Hospital for Children at the North, Maternity at the West,Meeting Hall, Classrooms,Press Room,Library for children, Lounge, Exhibition Room, Cafeteria,etc.
This Center was designed by the ASMA Architectural Office, completed in 2002.
This Center was published in the book[ THE PHAIDON ATLAS CONTEMPORARY WORLD ARCHITECTURE]as well.

My Weekend

Today, the sun was shining brightly, so i spent my weekend with some of the beautiful places in Fukui. I went to the Fukui City Art Museum for visiting the Diploma Project Show of University of Fukui.
During this season in Japan, most students of Architecture in the final year are doing their best for the architectural projects for their graduation.

I remember for this season when i did for my technical college graduation project last year.And I will did it again next year for my University graduation.
Nearby the Fukui City Art Museum is Fukui Prefectural Library. It was designed by Japanese renown architect Fumihiko Maki(http://www.pritzkerprize.com/maki2.htm).
There were many students,city people, visiting the library, doing their research.
I did spend about 2 hours enjoying the nice view in the library.
Great to be here in Fukui.

(CNN) -- Japan launched a rocket Saturday carrying a satellite that will test new technology that promises to deliver "super high-speed Internet" service to homes and businesses around the world.The rocket carrying the WINDS satellite -- a joint project of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries -- lifted off its pad at 5:55 p.m. (0855 GMT).If the technology proves successful, subscribers with small dishes will connect to the Internet at speeds many times faster than what is now available over residential cable or DSL services.
The Associated Press said the satellite would offer speeds of up to 1.2 gigabytes per second.The service initially would focus on the Asia-Pacific region close to Japan, a JAXA news release said."Among other uses, this will make possible great advances in telemedicine, which will bring high-quality medical treatment to remote areas, and in distance education, connecting students and teachers separated by great distances," JAXA said.The rocket was launched from Japan's Yoshinobu Launch Complex at the Tanegashima Space Center.

17th century Japanese village uncovered in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH — A site of a Japanese village dating back to the 17th century has been found in the outskirts of Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh, a Japanese archaeologist said Wednesday. Hiroshi Sugiyama, chief research fellow at Japan's National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, said that based on research since 2004 and analyses of excavations and documents, the site in Ponhea Lueu Commune, about 25 kilometers north of Phnom Penh, is a Japanese village dating back to the 17th century.

Based on on-site research, excavations and historical documents, Japanese people came to Cambodia aboard ships between 1601 and 1635, he said. "There were about 100 Japanese living in the village during that period of time, and most of them were engaged in religious affairs and trading," Sugiyama said in a lecture on his findings to about 100 Cambodians, many of them university students, at the Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center in the Royal University of Phnom Penh.
